Kochi, 22nd October 2025: .Madhu S.Nair, Chairman & Managing Director, Cochin Shipyard said that India is far behind in ship building as China Korea and Japan controls 93% of the industry.
Delivering Keynote address at the “Kochi Shipbuilding Summit 2025”, jointly organised by Centre of Public Policy Research(CPPR), Kochi and Cochin Shipyard Ltd, he pointed out that although India is the third largest economy in the world, we have lost out in the field of ship building. Fortunately,our Prime Minister has been very much particular in boosting the Ship building industry. Maritime India Vision 2030 envisages India's emergence as the 10th Maritime force in the world. Rs 73,000 crore has been earmarked for the purpose.
To steer India's ship building Industry, collaboration is necessary. Mr. Madhu S. Nair advised those concerned to invite Korean and Japanese ship builders to India to put up ship building facilities here. The growth in ship building is imperative to achieve the goal of Viksit Bharat- he added.
